We welcome members from all over the United States but our primary membership comes from western South Dakota, northwestern Nebraska and eastern Wyoming. Our meetings are usually every second Tuesday of the month at our clubhouse in the General Aviation area of Rapid City Regional Airport. Meetings start at 7:30 p.m. unless we get the urge to have a cookout before the meeting. Then we gather starting at 6 p.m. We occasionally move the meeting to a non-Tuesday time for the annual holiday party or picnic. Check the calendar of events to see what is current for the month. Starting in August 2008 we will have Chapter 39 board meetings two weeks prior to the regular meeting. Locations to be announced. This is so that business can be hashed out prior to the regular meeting which will focus on programs of interest to the membership. The Board consists of the President, Vice President, Past President, Treasurer, Publicity Chair, and Newsletter Editor. Others may be added as needed. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend and provide their input. Members have constructed and flown a variety of aircraft since our founding in 1963 and are continuing to do so today. We also have people who are very interested in restoring and flying aging aircraft. We coordinate several fly-outs every year to surrounding airports. They often show up on the calendar between newsletters. We want to encourage people to enjoy all aspects of aviation. We try to reach out to the community by sponsoring Young Eagles orientation flights for children between the ages of 8 and 17, as well as sponsoring Golden Eagles orientation flights to encourage adults with the means to pursue a pilot’s license. Public events will be posted on our calendar. Check back often to see what we are up to! |

Our annual Christmas party has evolved from cookies at the December meeting in the hangar to elaborate affairs at local restaurants. One year we had the head of the Thunderbirds, Col. Brian Bishop, as our guest. We invited Civil Air Patrol units from across the state and had quite a turn out. It helped that Brian’s Dad is a chapter member. |
